The Maine Affiliate for HDSA/NE has created this campaign to raise money to benefit
research & awareness of Huntington's Disease for the Huntington's
Disease Society of America.  Your cost is $1.00 and the cost of a postage stamp.

After I make the heart what do I do with it?
Send it to the address below along with $1.00
A house has been designated to display all the hearts.
Once hearts are received they will be displayed all over the walls.
Pictures will be uploaded to this site so that all may see your heart proudly displayed in
the "House of Hearts." 

When can I start making my heart and how long will I have to finish my heart?
As soon as you are able to access this page you can make your heart.
The "House of Hearts" campaign will run from October 15, 2008 through
February 28, 2009

Where does all the money raised go?
All money raised is to benefit the Huntington's Disease Society of America
for research & awareness of Huntington's Disease.

What is Huntington's Disease? (HD)

A neurological inherited brain disorder that kills brain cells over a period of time.  As the brain cells are dying the affected person will lose cognitive abilities, speech will be slurred, gait will be unsteady, uncontrollable movements will be present & psychosis and/or depression can be present.  All symptoms will progress usually over a period of 10-15 years from the onset of symptoms.  There is currently no cure for this disease.  Go to Huntington's Disease Society of America to learn more about this disease and about HDSA.

How do you get Huntington's Disease?

Any person that has a parent with the disease has a 50% chance of inheriting it.  Huntington's Disease does not discriminate according to age, nationality, gender or race.   Known cases have been recorded as young as age 2 (JHD) Juvenile HD or as old as age 70.

What is an Affiliate?

A group of caring individuals dedicated to finding the cure for HD.
Giving their time and energy advocating, raising awareness & funds for HD.

HDSA Mission Statement

The Society is a national, voluntary health organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with Huntington's Disease and their families.


The purposes for which the Society is formed and shall operate are:

To promote and support research and medical efforts to eradicate
Huntington's Disease.

To assist people and families affected by Huntington's Disease to cope
with the problems presented by the disease.

To educate the public and health professionals about Huntington's Disease.
HDSA is a none profit organization.

When the program is over some of the hearts will be used in several framed poster boards. The poster boards will be proudly displayed on the walls of the group home in Portland, Maine, which is home to two young men who suffer with Huntington's disease.   These two young men can have the enjoyment of knowing that people do care about them.
